“You’re too sensitive”, “Stop being so difficult”, “Lighten up”, “Why do you have to take everything so seriously”
If you’re a cycle breaker, you’ve likely been on the receiving end of these phrases, among others, more times than you can count. Because…
Your sensitive self is attuned to the dysfunctional behaviours & patterns that have played out for generations within your own family and the broader world. For you, this awareness comes coupled with an uncomfortable sense of being stuck, limited, confined; you’re burnt out on maintaining the status quo.
You aspire to do things differently but being a black sheep can feel like waging battle alone and doing the work to break the cycle can leave you feeling overwhelmed and lonely.
I see you courageous cycle breaker. And though you’ve often been made to feel otherwise, I truly believe your sensitivity is your superpower.
Our world is so in need of those of us who can imagine (and long to bring forth) a more beautiful, humane, loving way forward for ourselves, our loved ones, and the world.
But we need to reimagine how we initiate change.
Because each of us has internalized the very systems we’re trying to break free from.
You’ve developed adaptive survival strategies to help you navigate your familial system and societal structures in a world that is not designed to honour our intersectional expressions of humanness.
Unfurling new ways of being happens one small step at a time and it all starts with a quiet inner revolution.
It’s a gradual process that happens over time; the idea that you have to do it all now or do it perfectly is a product of oppressive systems and is not an effective strategy for shaping a more loving future.
Liberation is a big task that requires breaking down old ways of being and rebuilding something new and reclaimed in their place. I believe the path to personal and collective liberation starts within the body.
Reconnecting to sensation
Deepening into compassion
Learning to be with emotion
Tapping into creative self-expression
Reclaiming play, awe, pleasure, and wonder
Leaning into rest
Communing with the natural world
Remembering radical love for yourself and your fellow humans
These are all resourcing embodied practices that are in themselves liberatory because they turn you away from who you’ve been told you should be, what you’ve been taught you should do, and help tether you to your guide…your own internal compass.
Make no mistake you’ll move through many hard things during the destruction and reconstruction. But let’s move past this notion that we always have to be doing the work. Let’s explore a new possibility…shaping culture from the inside out in a way that feels less like a battle and more like a joyful expression of the most true and beautiful vision we have for ourselves and the entire ecosystem we’re a part of.
This is the somatic revolution and I believe it’s how we break free.
Tell me More!
Somatic Revolution is a 3-week community project designed to:
- Explore new ideas about how we break cycles and create culture within our own families and beyond; granting permission and providing inspiration to define for ourselves what that looks like.
- Invite us to experience and play with a variety of embodiment practices, unearthing those that will best serve and resource us for the hard things.
- Build community for all of us involved, cultivating connection among other cycle breakers and culture makers, because this can often be a lonely journey, and we cannot do it alone.
How it Works.
Each day for 18 days in November (beginning Monday 13th November) those who sign up will get an email featuring an incredible human sharing a perspective or practice related to the embodied human experience and liberation — this could be written, or a short video/audio.
You can go deeper with the content and connection to community by joining our Mighty Networks group. Within this space, you’ll find a prompt or question to support your exploration of that day’s content. Engage with the daily prompt or come by and share your stories, reflections, struggles, and celebrations. This is our space to cultivate connection and build relationships with the amazing humans who are walking along side you.
Join the Somatic Revolution!
If you’re here for it and want to join the conversation, click the button below and drop your info into the form. This will sign you up for the daily emails and provide you a link to join the community.
Late to the party and discovering this after we’ve begun? No problem! You can join in at any time, there will be a catch-up page available for the duration of the project so you can go back and dive into any of the content you missed.
Once the project wraps, you’ll receive a wonderful e-book containing the contributions of all contributors who’ve given their consent to continue to share their content.
